Formula 1

Never say never. I never thought I would be in so many shitholes at the same time. But I also never thought I would have so many exceptional relationships and experiences in my life. I never truly knew the depth of my love for my sons, until I had them. BUT, what I really never believed is how much I am obsessed with Formula 1 racing!

Luke has completed two days, aka 4 rounds of his chemo thus far. He has started numerous meds for ALL things that go along with chemo. He is tolerating it very well so far. We know the side-effects are coming and there is no avoiding them at all. We have all the tools ready to help dissipate them. He is eating a lot, not nauseous at all, mucositis hasn’t begun, and he walked 2 miles yesterday on his unit. Around and around hauling his triple IV pole attached to him. His mind is strong, attitude positive, and his tiny touch of sass in tact. (Wait until he gets my cells. FULL SASS COMIN IN HOT) :). He has a new love of not only Formula 1, but golf. He downloaded Golf Plus on his VR and the Waste Management course. He has played it several times. Ben and I haven’t killed each other, yet. We have slept-ish on the little bench bed together and all things, considering, fine. The first night Ben jokingly mentioned that we should sleep opposite from one another, head to toes, so I would have to smell his stinky feet. I said no problem and that I could still reach his face to smother him with a pillow. We laughed.

Mason, Luke, GG, Morgan, and I all started watching the Formula 1 docu-series on Netflix about 2 months ago. I had watched the first two seasons years ago and had told them numerous times they would love it. In isolation, I finally just turned it on and they clued in. Morgan isn’t a big fan of it, GG sits and pretends to watch and orders stuff off Amazon. We got halfway through season 3 before we checked back into the hospital. Mason and GG have continued to watch it the last couple of nights and Luke immediately turned it on here. I was spinning circles so had to catch up to Luke yesterday. It. Is. So. Good. And I am now a huge fan of Formula 1 and my boys are hooked as well. They know all about the sport outside of the docuseries now. That has been fun!

Season 3 Episode 8/9ish a driver by the name of Romain Grosjean was in his final Formula 1 race. He had been racing for Formula 1 for almost 10 years and his contract had not been renewed for the next season. The first lap of his final race and he wrecks and slams into the wall going around 190 mph, breaking his car in half and the gas an oil releasing therefore making him caught in a gigantic ball of fire. The race is stopped. Everyone assumes the worst and that there is no way anyone can make it out of a wreck like that alive. You see one man run across the track to help him and another emergency worker get to him. After 28 seconds of this wreck you see him crawl out of a piece of his car, and he is on fire. He insists on walking to the ambulance with aid, but not on a stretcher. Anywho…he got out with minimal burns, broken bones, etc. Luke is not Grosjean, nor am I. We are not going 190 mph into a ball of fire. But it sometimes feels like it.

The next episode is about Sergio Perez. It is his last race of the season and he his hoping to get a contract with Ferari the following year but hasn’t won a podium in many races. On the third lap of his last race he has contact with another car and spins out. He sits in his car for a few seconds and his “handler” says to him on his radio to get going. Continue the race. He is now in 18th place-dead last. You see how throughout the 57 lap race he one by one takes on the car in front of him and makes a move to overtake each one. Against all odds, he wins the race. (side note- Lewis Hamilton couldn’t race because he had just tested positive for Covid)

In our little life on 7, watching and feeling these victories ON NETFLIX NO DOUBT, is motivating. It feels good. And yes, its racecar driving. Not our story and not our life but I sure the heck am going to stand next to my boys on a podium and spray some giant bottles of champagne when we win this, again.

For those of you that are worried about me and my new love of Formula 1, please don’t be. I plan on watching Love Is Blind Reunion late tonight.

Buckets of NO FIRE,

Sux

(Carlos Sainz is my favorite)
